After three years of designing woven upholstery for the commercial furniture market, Selinde is now pleased to have her own hand weaving studio in the Marshall High Studios where she has devoted herself to rejuvenating the art of the Appalachian coverlet. She strives to lend a contemporary design sensibility to her coverlet-inspired wall-hangings and throws that speaks to the increasingly sophisticated craft collector. Selinde uses only natural dyes in her work, a choice that speaks not only to the heritage of coverlet weavers from long ago but also to the sustainability of using locally sourced plant material. She finds that natural dye plants provide a rich palette of colors which all blend harmoniously, weaving a magical union that resonates with her love for the natural world, light and color.
