Star Diner
Flaky lump crab cakes flavored with a touch of roasted jalapeño aioli; delicately fried brussels sprouts mixed with bacon, Parmesan, and pickled cherry peppers; and an intricately layered cylinder of beautifully salty roasted beets with a cashew pesto for dipping. Do I have your attention yet?
Take a step back in time at the Star Diner at the old Gulf filling station in Historic Marshall, NC. Brian Sonoskus, the former executive chef and 15-year veteran of Asheville’s famed Tupelo Honey restaurant was coming to Marshall to open his dream eatery — a limited-seating, retro-romantic, vintage version of an iconic chophouse. And he succeeded.
The Star Diner, located at 115 N. Main Street, is the perfect choice for your next date night. The romantic setting will surely be a memorable night that you won’t soon forget. Afterwards walk down Main Street of downtown Marshall for live bluegrass at Zumas on Thursday or take a stroll along the enchanting French Broad River.
Just 25 minutes north of Asheville, Star Diner is an experience you won’t want to miss. Be sure to call ahead, reservations are a must for this popular spot!

“Such an awesome place to eat and enjoy time with friends and family. Cozy atmosphere in an old gas station. Probably not what you’d expect. Food is top notch, service is excellent and just a great place! We’ve been here several times and we’re always so happy with everything they have to offer! Definitely a place to check in the awesome town of Marshall.” – Jim M.
“What a lovely surprise! Got dinner reservations last minute… played checkers in the lobby waiting for our table and then WOW! The food! Deep fried oysters that were soft and succulent! Asparagus cooked to perfection with no stringy bits… and the best mashed potatoes in years! Served by one of the owners, a chef and wife team! Lovely decor! I will be back!” – Pattiy T.
